Liberty 70 Unknown (11A08)

This unknown circular disk was recovered from the wreck of the Liberty ship John R Park, lost off the Lizard in Cornwall. The object was found by one of the eight Oerlikon gun emplacements so may be associated with this type of gun.

The object is a flat cast disk with a raised lip at the edge. It is pierced by 12 x 22mm holes in a circular pattern and two smaller holes with rubber grommets near the centre. Cast into the disk is:

'BERANEK & ERWIN, LOS ANGELES CALIF, DRWG. & REF. NO., 1508'

Note: This object is not from the Plymouth area but has been included as it is associated with the wreck of the James Eagan Layne in Whitsand Bay as part of the Liberty 70 Project.
