Liberty 70 Portable Boiler - Plaque (11A16)

This cast iron plaque formed part of the outer casing of one of the portable boilers carried as cargo in the Liberty ship James Eagan Layne. There were four different designs around the casing of the boiler; the ploughman (below), a cockerel, a cow and a wheatsheaf in a vase. The boilers were manufactured by Micklethwaite of Rotherham.
