A pirate ship, small punts and a pair of unknown boats buried in a dock at Calstock.

Type

Yacht, punts and barges

History

The History of these vessels is not known.

Description

There is a sunken yacht on the north side of the Tamar above Okeltor which is known locally as the 'Pirate Ship'. This vessel appears to have sunk at her moorings and has been abandoned to nature (Fig1, 2).

At low tide a number of small boats or punts can be seen sunk alongside the many small quays that were built along the river (Fig. 3).

When The SHIPS Project were doing survey work in the area in 2011, local residents told us that two boats were left in the small dock at Okeltor and still lie there under the infill (Fig. 4).

Please get in touch if you have any information about these vessels by sending us a message below.

Thanks to Jo Stirling for the canoe trip up the Tamar.

Location and Access

Calstock. The 'Pirate Ship' can best be seen from the river and the punts can be seen from the riverside path at low tide.
