The SHIPS Project is a volunteer non-profit organisation that undertakes research and exploration of maritime historical sites and events, both on land and underwater.
The work of The SHIPS Project is undertaken by unpaid volunteers known as the SHIPS Crew. We provide a range of training courses for the Crew to allow them to undertake tasks both safely and effectively. There are courses for divers who wish to be involved with our maritime heritage projects, some for those doing seabed cleanup and there are courses for non-divers doing archaeology projects on the foreshore.
Most diving-related courses require the participant to be qualified to BSAC Sports Diver level or above, see the list of equivalent qualifications here.
Some of our projects require the volunteers to have completed selected courses before they can be involved.
Come and find out more about what we do on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
